K-12 FUNDING

POLICY

The W̱SÁNEĆ School Board is committed to giving financial help to Elementary, Middle and Secondary School students to the best of its ability in order to contribute to their academic success. The W̱SÁNEĆ School Board offers educational assistance for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. The W̱SÁNEĆ Board supports and helps provide services to facilitate life-long learning for the students of the four nations of: Pauquachin, Tsartlip, Tsawout and Tseycum Nation members and/or other status on-reserve students. Such supports are based upon W̱SÁNEĆ School Board policies and availability of funding.

GUIDELINES

The W̱SÁNEĆ School Board only receives Department of Indigenous Services (DISC) funding for on reserve students listed on the yearly DISC Nominal Roll.
Subject to the availability of funding, the W̱SÁNEĆ School Board extends financial aid to all students of Saanich ancestry regardless of inclusion on Nominal Roll if they are registered within School District #63.

During the school year, the W̱SÁNEĆ School Board will assist with school fee expenditures for one year for a student not included on the Nominal Roll if they would have been eligible for inclusion if s/he had been enrolled in public school on September 30.

All financial aid is intended as subsidy and not as complete cost coverage.

This policy covers eligible fees for Public, Private and Homeschooled school students.

The policy needs to distinguish between schools that report student data to the W̱SÁNEĆ School Board and those that do not; because for the latter, it is impossible to administer some financial support.

The Board sets its yearly budget for Financial Aid.
