The WSANEC School Board hosted the Post-Secondary Graduation Ceremony on June 14, 2022 at the Mary Winspear Centre.  There were 22 Post-Secondary students that graduated their program.  We also included two elders that received an honorary doctorate.

Uncle Gabe Bartleman Bursary 2022

The Uncle Gabe Bartleman Bursary was established in honor of our late uncle who believed in Education and the wellbeing of our Saanich People.  The bursary was established in 2002 in memory of Gabe.

Awarded to:  Kristy Charlie

Certificate in Language Revitalization – University of Victoria

Kristy entered the program because she is interested in learning the language and working in the community.  She wants to contribute to many aspects including culture and education.  She will carry on into the Diploma program at UVIC next year and eventually go into the Bachelor of Education.

The George and Geraldine Underwood Bursary 2022

This bursary is awarded to a full-time post-secondary student from Tsawout, Tseycum, Pauquachin, or Tsartlip.  They would like to recognize the commitment and perseverance of an adult learner to post-secondary education and to modelling W̱SÁNEĆ QENÁȽ – Responsibility; ŦELÁṈET – Self Initiative; ATOL – Respect for rights and values of others; SW̱ÍW̱I – Positive attitude and willingness to work hard; ȽḴIL – Confidence.

PhD in Linguistics – University of Alberta

Rae Ann’s ultimate goal is to be fluent in both Hul’q’umi’num and SENCOTEN both languages of my people, and to work in a position that I can advocate for language in higher education where we can have better access to funds meant for our language and our people.
