Working under the direction of the Operations & Maintenance Supervisor, the On-Call Bus Driver is responsible for driving ȽÁUWELṈEW̱ Tribal School (ȽTS), W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Secondary School (ȽSS) and students, to and from school, field trips, and maintaining buses.
Duties
- Arrive a minimum of 30 minutes prior to scheduled bus departures, in appropriate condition to drive a school bus (free from any substance that may impair judgement for at least 24 hours prior to arrival)
- Drive the bus in a safe manner, adhering to daily bus routes, stops and schedules as designated by the Supervisor
- Conduct pre and post inspections for each trip in accordance with Motor Vehicle Act Regulations
- Direct, monitor and supervise students and ensure compliance with safe loading, riding and unloading procedures
- Advise Supervisor of any travel issues such as routes, and traffic violations
- Report unacceptable student behaviour/language as soon as possible and consult with Principal and parents where necessary on methods to manage student behaviour
- Clean the interior of the bus daily, sweeping and removing garbage
- Fuel vehicle on a regular basis
- Inspect the bus for repairs on a regular basis and report defects or necessary repairs to Supervisor
- Monitor insurance status, check with Supervisor for insurance renewal notices and obtain necessary bus insurance
- Assist in assessing maintenance problems, perform minor maintenance and emergency repairs
- Schedule and arrange mandatory external bus inspections in accordance with Motor Vehicle Act Regulations and drive the bus to and from the inspection facility
Qualifications
- Grade 10 Education
- Valid Class 2 BC Driver’s License and one year of professional driving experience
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
- Valid Police Information Check
