Hours of Work: 5 days per week, 7 hrs. per day, 12-month employee beginning August 18, 2025.

The W̱SÁNEĆ School Board is seeking an exceptional leader for the position of Associate Director at the W̱SÁNEĆ College. The college serves a student population of approximately 52 dogwood students and 46 partnership students this past year, and 12 staff members, with projections of growth.

The incoming Associate Director co-manage the programs and services associated with delivering higher learning opportunities at W̱SÁNEĆ College and ensuring that the best interests of adult learners are served. The position will support the Director in overseeing two streams of adult education: upgrading (Adult Dogwood program) and post-secondary partnership programming. Depending on the Associate Director’s professional background, experience and educational focus, the Associate Director will take on greater leadership over one of the two streams.

W̱SÁNEĆ College is both an FNSA-certified school (Adult Dogwood programming) and an IAHLA member institute (community-based partnership programming, i.e. Camosun College’s Indigenous College Prep and UVIC’s W̱,SENĆOŦEN IST: Diploma in Indigenous Language Revitalization). The Associate Director will lead teachers, teaching assistants and advisors in the delivery of Dogwood courses (grades eight to twelve), collaborate with partners on the delivery of on-site post-secondary programs, and support the administration of ISC post-secondary funding (PSSSP) for Tsartlip, Tsawout and Tseycum First Nations.  Also, the position performs other related duties and participates in work-related training as required.

The traditional territories of the W̱SÁNEĆ are situated on beautiful Vancouver Island, approximately a 30-minute drive from Victoria, B.C. and south of Sidney B.C. Our W̱SÁNEĆ College is in Brentwood Bay on the W̱JOȽEȽP (Tsartlip) First Nation. The W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Secondary School also services SȾÁUTW̱ (Tsawout), BOḰEĆEN (Pauquachin), W̱SIḴEM (Tseycum) First Nations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree in a related discipline or an acceptable equivalent combination of academic training and professional experience
  • Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in the education field
  • Balanced understanding of the post-secondary education system and the K-12 education system
  • Excellent leadership, management, and communication skills
  • Has an excellent understanding of First Nations Culture

DESIREABLE COMPETENCIES

  • Graduate degree in a related discipline
  • Member of BC College of Teachers
  • Knowledge of the relevant BC Ministry of Education curriculum and requirements
  • Knowledge of the public post-secondary system and a good understanding of our local PSIs
