Help Shape the Future of Early Learning and Child Care in W̱SÁNEĆ

W̱SÁNEĆ School Board (WSB) is working to strengthen the quality, capacity, and accessibility of early learning and child care (ELCC) programs and spaces to better reflect and meet the needs, values, and vision of W̱SÁNEĆ children and families.

To support this work, the Nation is carrying out a community-led needs assessment to:

  • Celebrate what is already working well for children, families, and caregivers;
  • Identify gaps, challenges, or pressures that community members are experiencing when accessing or delivering ELCC programs and supports;
  • Gather insights into how ELCC spaces, programs, and services can continue to grow and evolve in ways that reflect WSB’s language revitalization priorities, uphold W̱SÁNEĆ identity and values, and meet the needs of children and families now and into future generations.

The insights gathered will support future decision-making, advocacy, and program development.

Community engagement is a central part of this needs assessment. It ensures that ELCC programs, services and infrastructure are informed by the voices, values, priorities, and vision of W̱SÁNEĆ families and community members. Through a survey, focus groups, and community engagements, this engagement process creates space to reflect on what is working, where the gaps are, and what is needed to support children and families now and into the future.
